Skewed Stator
What is it?
Brushless motor windings are wrapped around stacks of steel stator rings. Â These stacks are typically straight, like the example on the right. Stacks can also be skewed slightly, like in the example on the left.
What are the benefits of a skewed stator?
Skewing a brushless motor stator can reduce cogging, yielding:
-
-
-
- smoother power delivery at very low RPM
- reduced acoustic signature
-
-
Which motors can utilize this?
Skewing works best on high pole count inrunner motors.
