Skewed Stator

What is it?

Brushless motor windings are wrapped around stacks of steel stator rings.  These stacks are typically straight, like the example on the right. Stacks can also be skewed slightly, like in the example on the left.

What are the benefits of a skewed stator?

Skewing a brushless motor stator can reduce cogging, yielding:

        • smoother power delivery at very low RPM
        • reduced acoustic signature

Which motors can utilize this?

Skewing works best on high pole count inrunner motors.
